In the creation of over 80 Jil Sander boutiques, showrooms and offices worldwide, Gabellini Sheppard Associates has had the opportunity to renovate and restore many important historical structures. Regardless of the project scope, GS has approached these projects in a similar manner­with profound respect for the original design and precise attention to details and quality of materials. Depending on the specifics of the site, GS carefully decides to either renovate or restore a building exterior facade or interior­always with the same intention­to maintain or elevate the integrity and quality of the architecture. The Jil Sander design concept­defined by pure, linear geometries; translucent, light filled planes; floating surfaces; and suspended forms­was developed in concert with the venerable structures in which it frequently resides, and this is ultimately the reason that its classic modern design is in harmony with its environment.
