Olympic Tower Residence
New York City
Gabellini Sheppard Associates was commissioned to renovate the interiors of a 49th-floor private residence overlooking Fifth Avenue. In order to accommodate the client’s unique travel needs, the firm conceived this 1,800 sq. ft. apartment as a luminous living environment of formal clarity and spatial harmony, providing the ultimate urban sanctuary for the professional couple’s frequent visits to New York City.
The design concept for the interiors centers on the creation of a crystalline light volume within the black monolith forming the Olympic Tower. White plaster, honed Yugoslavian Sivec marble, and matte, translucent optical glass compose the elemental material palette framing the space, which is wrapped in panoramic full-height windows that allow for unobstructed viewing of the surrounding metropolitan landscape. The residence follows an open helical plan, permitting the subtle articulation of spaces for business, leisure, entertainment, and relaxation.
The interplay of light, form, and material shapes a transcendent, elemental purity that flows throughout the space. Catered to the client’s lifestyle and needs, The Olympic Tower Residence serves as an ideal home-away-from-home and serene respite within the animated Manhattan landscape.
